| Desktop wallpapers for masamune shirow's collection
of posterbooks; they originally appeared in an adult
magazine in japan, I believe. |

Ah yes, the desktop that inspired this very site.
I just got round to thinking that some of my desktops
where getting kinda good, and I liked the feel of
the phrase "digital-bondage" so here we
are :). |
|
This was my first grunge type wallpaper, but as I
was farting about with the concept, I kinda ended
up flipping it on its head.
So instead of a black bouckgroundwith lighter stuff
on it, we have a lighter background with black stuff
on it.
This is another one of my personal faves of my own. |
|
I think this is actually one of my favourites of
my early desktops. The gun in the background
is the FN-P90, which is Shirows inspiration for the
Seburo range.
This is actually a second generation wallpaper. As
my skills have increased, I felt more confident about
doing a better job, and this one is certainly much
smoother than the original was. |
|
This is one of my earlier complex desktops (if that
makes any sense).
I've tried to have a mixture of elements, and to
restrict the palette of the background.
I was using this for the longest time as a desktop,
and it works for me, but then I prefer a simple background.
I've a feeling most people would want more than the
black - like a star field, or similar. |
|
This is up there as one of my favourite desktops
of my own creation.
All it is is a couple of photoshop paintrbushes slapped
sparingly onto the white background. Black and white
always go together superbly well. The text came mainly
from the fact that she's telling us to hush, but also
because the scene is otherwise quite tranquil.
Stunningly simple, stunningly effective, I reckon.
The only problem? The apparent wind direction for
the grass conflicts slightly with her skirt! I forgot
to flip it - oooops! |
|
Ohhh, swirly. This is just the simple idea of the
girl wandering down some sort of worm hole/tunnel
thingy.
I think it works quite well, but it's not really
that spectacular. |
|
Clearly I wasn't suffieciently impressed with the
level of pr0n in some of the images (:o) so when I
saw this scan manipulation someone had done in order
to extract something from one the posterbooks, I knew
I had to use it in a desktop.
The japanese down the side said something pretty
inane, but it was a sort of simplified matrix feel
I was going for. I think it works to some degree.
Could have done with more stuff in it, though. |
|
With the complexity of this pictue, I figured the
best way to deal with it was to do something similar
to the poster book 105 desktop. However, I was
also fixated on getting a metallic feel in there somehow.
After some searching I got the source for the background
and kinda tweaked and fiddled till I was happy with
the pattern. At this stage I was very happy,
but I then kinda went to far. I applied the
grey swirl effect and was initially pleased, but having
used the desktop for a while found it was a little
jarring.
Unfortunately I was unable to satisfactorily remove
the effect :(. |
|
This is literally just a large picture from one of
the posterbooks trimmed and used as a desktop.
Sometimes Shirow's stuff is just so good it's a crime
to try to add or take anything away from it. |
|
This desktop is a little disapointing. I think
the idea works, with the steel effect and the door,
but I struggled quite a lot with the colour balancing.
The result, as you can see, still looks like she's
been plonked on top of the texture! |
